I like the variety in this cookbook. The recipes are grouped by type which is very helpful. They look great for everyday cooking using what you would generally have on hand--which is a huge plus. The author gives cooking tips with each recipe. Recipes are easy to follow.I liked the layout of the recipes with the calories included for each method, the ingredients listed, the light, smooth, concise directions, and the helpful hints or cooking tips covered by the author. I'm pretty happy with this book.I was impressed with the thought that went into not only the recipes but also the meal planning — providing a selection of nicely balanced ethnic dishes to be made in your instant pot cooker some with unique ingredients that allow you to expand your tastes.Most of the vital thing included in this book, I have used electric pressure cookers, so this has helped me learn my new Instant Pot. The start of this book has a nice section in the beginning explaining the buttons on the Instant Pot. The recipes in the book are simple but so good. The best part of this book, at least for me, is that I can now make dishes that once seemed complicated and messy in just one pot with ease and no huge wash up afterwards. Highly recommended to anyone wanting to get started with an Instant Pot and looking for inspiration and advice.

This is the only pressure cookbook I have found that has recipes for two. As several reviewers have pointed out, this cookbook is for 6 qt electric pressure cookers. I prefer using my stove top pressure cooker. I wish the recipes had a stove top option or there was a section on how to convert a recipe for an electric pressure cooker to a stove top pressure cooker. The times are usually slightly different.

I feel like this has some good recipies but I would like to use my instant pot for the main portion of the dish and have little prep before or after. Some of these recipies still require a decent amount of time and some are only for a side dish. Still overall a good book with some good recipies.

This is the main weight cookbook I have discovered that has formulas for two. As a few commentators have called attention to, this cookbook is for 6 qt electric weight cookers. I favor utilizing my stove top weight cooker.

The book takes on the important task of informing the reader of the most likely origin of humankind, and tells the history of the African continent in the last 10,000 years or so. It dispels many Eurocentric misconceptions and untruths. It is high time the truth comes out and the European colonizers' version is proven so tainted that it is simply untrue. I give highest rating for this reason and encourage anyone who would like to know the truth about the last 10,000 years of history to read this book. My only criticism would be that although the book does mention African matriarchy and gender equality, it mostly lists the many males in the history. But perhaps it is because the book doesn't go even further back. For history earlier than 10,000 years, I recommend Riane Eisler's The Chalice and The Blade.

I consider “introduction to African Civilizations”, one of the best books ever written. Considering the book was first published in 1937 there are, obviously, some things that may have changed but overall if is a five plus. There should be a copy of this book in every African/ African American home and any other’s who wish to be enlightened.

Someone edited out the part about ancient Zimbabwe from the original. That told of their iron and gold mine used by the ancient Ethiopians and other very early civilizations. The rest of the book is excellent.

Great for History Discussion Groups. Should be in all School Libraries, especiall in all Southern States in this countryPerhaps African Americans would begin to reject the notion that the Black Race is inferior and a minority race.Their is so much scientific and scholarly proof that Africans are the worlds first people. This book also dispels the myth that European, Greek History is correct. African History is not Revisionist History, rather European History is Revionist History.

This book is a Bible of black history. It contains the truth about the origin of civilization in Afrika, as it has been told through the years, in recorded history, from various historians. I literally use it on a weekly, if not daily basis, to combat ignorance about the Afrikan/Khemi origins of everything, including various nations around the world. It, also, talks about how Afrikan people discovered America and how Afrikan people "civilized" Europe. It's simply a must have book!!!!!!!! I love it.

This small and concise book presents the ecological likelihood of our human fate, the blinkered and predatory ways we are dealing with it, the inescapable human reliance of violence in the case of threat, and the lack of any real control in ensuring our continuity . Roy Scranton, a former soldier, has written a deeply thoughtful essay. It is a call to accepting our mortality while working to continue what has been deepest and most enduring in our culture. One may or may not agree with any of the specific arguments here, but there is no doubt that this book places all the crucial issues on the table.

I definitely recommend it, but before you buy it be sure you're interested in Scranton's core question. That is, what the humanities offer us in this perilous situation? If you're uninterested in that question, find another book.If you're into Scranton's question, this book offers some novel thoughts and some new/compelling ways of summarizing old thoughts/history, but don't expect to be blown away. He does a good job formulating his question and using credible sources to describe the scientific and political context. And I think the points he makes about the humanities are salient.But I think he says too little about what the humanities can do for us. The type of person most likely to buy a book with "Anthropocene" in the title already knows much of what he says about climate science, policy, and current social ills. You'd think he'd balance that with an equal amount of attention to what he views as the positive/productive promise/power/role of the humanities. Sometimes (like in Chapter Four) he does single out aspects of "the problem" that are seldom addressed and addresses them in fresh ways. But still, he spends more time describing the problem than answering his question, which is underwhelming since it's by answering his question that we can learn to die in the Anthropocene. The answer is there, but he could've done more with it, even in a volume as short as his.It's a good book, though. And the endnotes and bibliography are very useful.Three last critiques: first, his use of the word "anarchy" early in the book shows he doesn't know what anarchism is. Second, he doesn't address capitalism's role in this mess, a subject better dealt with in Naomi Kline's "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate" and Jason W. Moore's "Anthropocene or Capitalocene? Nature, History, and the Crisis of Capitalism." Third: the book is disjointed -- it jumps around a bit.

I no longer care for terminology that calls for “fighting” climate change. It is not climate changing we fight, after all, but rather our own civilization and society. Climate has changed naturally before, and it is changing now, under our influence. If we are to survive, we need to learn the simple truth that we a part of this, and they only way to survive it is to let it-our current civilization-go. Only then can we focus on what comes next, and only the will we see the possibility of ourselves as accepting our fate. We must “die” in order to live. That is the call to action laid out in this short, but brilliant work. Not that we must sit back and do nothing. But that we must accept what we have done, that we will be impacted, perhaps critically so, and that with that knowledge in hand act on our future’s behalf, no longer focusing on the now.This book made a huge difference in my growing pessimism and futile look on climate change. Yes, bad things are about to happen. Our civilization is probably already dead.But what comes next?

This is a very short introduction to problems of the "Anthropocene" for people willing to face just how dire the situation is. As Scranton's subtitle admits, these are "reflections," although he synthesizes many different sources. The major importance, spread amidst the other arguments, is Scranton's insistence on the importance of mourning, in place of fake optimism, and learning to live in the ruins of our currrent culture as part of our response to the coming climate change. This book. This book was a gift for my boyfriend for Christmas. Not only did he read it, he's now read it many times. I've also read it. The book is extremely well written and goes through the history of American craftsmanship and tools. Different ways, in different regions, different woods, etc. This book is perfect for anyone who may have an interest in building their own tools one day, and even if you don't -- it's a beautifully written history of Americans and our evolution as farmers and hard work being done throughout the century. Full of discoveries and lost trades/ideas, I would give this book to anyone and know that I had made a solid choice. Even for someone who wouldn't normally read this kind of book, I found it to be enlightening and fun to read.

Like everything published by Eric Sloan, this book is beautifully illustrated and contains a wealth of information that would otherwise be lost - had Sloan not documented it.

It's fascinating to see all the clever tools that craftsmen used to use that we don't really see anymore, and it's a shame that many of these tools have been lost to antiquity because they're often superior to the mass-produced contemporary implements we use in modern times. This book contains a wealth of information that is extremely helpful to an aspiring woodworker, as well as someone interested in the historical values of such tools. The illustrations are very well done and the text does a good job explaining how each tool was used. I greatly recommend this.

If you love old tools and the folklore that goes with them, get this book! Sloan is tops in his field of both research and artwork. Not only do you get a wealth of information, but also a dose of humor that makes it a delight to read these tomes. There is an old fashioned charm in the country wisdom that Sloan wrote about so well. Something that is sorely missing in a lot of more recent books. I rely on this volume when doing historical artwork when I have to depict a hand tool.

Eric Sloane has been dead for some time but his skills in writing and his art live on. I have been a fan of his work for over 40 years, reading his stories time and again. I had this book on my wish list and finally decided it was time to get it. Sloane writes of a culture long gone in America, a culture that made what they needed in order to survive and prosper. It would do us all good to look at that attitude today. He has many titles out there and I am slowly filling the holes in my collection of his works.

As a collector, user, and now teacher about old hand tool use, I have enjoyed reading and sharing this book with fellow woodworkers. I especially like the beautiful pen and ink drawings. However, I wish there was more detailed information about these old tools, especial saws and planes. I guess there's just enough information for the average reader who has little knowledge about old tools, but not quite enough for old tool junkies like myself.

This was a great gift for my dad for his 90th birthday! It brings back so many memories for him and he has thoroughly enjoyed it.The item was reasonably priced, came quickly, was carefully wrapped and in great condition.

An excellent reference for the range of historical tools. It is not an exhaustive reference of the range of tools or their variations but it provides a visual example of nearly every class of tool found in the colonial period. It has filled in a lot of gaps in my understanding of colonial industry.
