Helpful when I traveled to Costa Rica and Panama. The size was also great. There were a few basic phrases that were not included which would have been nice. It was also difficult to try and ask someone a question because the book doesn't explain many possible responses, so you end up asking the right question but having no idea what their response is. I don't know that these problems are inherent to the book but probably to all books like this. At the end of the day, I ended up using wifi and google translate a ton.

I'm really disappointed in this book. It's a great size, will fit in pocket or purse. It's British, that's the first difficulty. Just different enough to make it cumbersome. It's aimed at young people traveling on their own, rather than the general traveling public which ranges from those who go on a shoestring, families, and folks on tours. That's the second problem, it's manageable but focused mostly on the one group and what they might do. The worst thing is the organization. You have to guess where in the book things like thank you, please, etc are--it's fine to have chapters about various situations you might encounter, but only if you know what the editors considered the appropriate situation. There's a smallish dictionary in the back, a great idea, but the aforementioned basics like please and thank you and how much and numbers and time are not in it, I guess because somehow you're supposed to know what particular chapter they were covered in so you can flip back. This particular book was suggested by the tour company we're going to Italy with some time later this year, but I won't bother taking it along. I'll get something that's more straightforward.

I bought this book recently for my travel to Costa Rica. My Spanish is extremely limited to a few basic phrases like "Como estas" and "Hola". I found this book extremely useful. The book is well organized into chapters. I was able to quickly form short sentences to communicate with shuttle drivers, hotel staff and the local Ticos in Costa Rica. I got so hooked to speaking Spanish that I was reading this book whenever I got a chance to get better at my Spanish skills. Highly recommended.

This pocket guide was wonderful for learning common phrases and communicating w/locals in Baja, Mexico. Very helpful! I learned so much from this guide just flipping through it before my vacation. Translations & phrasing are easy to understand & repeat. I gave it only 4 stars b/c I needed it to have a more comprehensive Spanish/English dictionary. It did not contain about half of the words I looked up (mainly from street signs, menus, and conversations).

Love the Lonely Planet phrasebooks. tThey're well organized and have handy and useful translations. I always mean to brush up on the language before traveling but end up totally blanking and pantomiming when in country. Thanks, Lonely Planet, for saving copious embarrassment.

It was just what I needed: a small, practical dictionary with some cultural notes for traveling in South America. The pronunciation guide is better than most, and it is easy to navigate. It takes up little space and is light. Glad I got it!

I'm a Cuban American woman who is looking to learn Spanish so that I can eventually visit the country of my culture. This book makes it simple and easy and has all the key phrases that you would need to know when traveling.

We took this phrasebook as well as the Rick Steves phrasebook on a recent trip to Italy. We ended up using the Rick Steves nearly all of the time. It was just better organized and easier to navigate, plus it had more phrases and (for me) better pronunciation guides. The books were actually fairly similar, but we were especially grateful for Rick Steves when we got sick unexpectedly and discovered that the RS book had almost twice the vocabulary for health/medical issues. This is not a bad phrasebook, but if they are a similar price the Rick Steves is better.

Every one is the same difficulty. All can be solved in one reading of the clues. Not very challenging at all. That said, still entertaining and a good value.

There were no explanations as to how the puzzles were solved....unlike the high end Dell publications. I would not buy another.

Did not have various levels of difficulty. All very simple. Stick with Penny Dell for better challenge.

We had a copy of the 2015 PSAT test prep from Kaplan and decided to buy the 2018 edition since the 2015 would not give us access to the website. The best I can say about this copy is that it gave us access to the online portion of the website and the online test.However, the practice test in this book is IDENTICAL to the one in the 2015 edition. Seriously Kaplan? You couldn't get the energy up to creating a new practice test for the new edition of the book? The book has been really disappointing since it has a number of errors and the website is useful but you can find the same tests and coaching materials for free on Khan academy.Kaplan is really going to have to up it's game if it plans on continuing to have customers buy their newest test prep books

This 2019 version's practice portion is almost the same as 2018 version. The practice test is present in older PSAT book. My son found it useless since there is almost nothing new.

Other than perhaps minor editing changes, this is the exact same book as their 2017 "Strategies, Practice & Review" book. I understand that the strategies would be the same, but even the practice test, is identical. I bought the book for an updated practice test and wasted my money. Do not buy this book if you own the 2017 edition. I have included a photo of the first page of both practice tests side by side for review purposes.

I feel dumber already, having flubbed the first practice test. And I was a National Merit Finalist back in the 90s...Still, the test prep strategies seem to be working for the teenager on her way to take the PSAT and the Kaplan guide helped her with the ACT last year.Practice questions, explanations of right answers, all in, a good preparation book. Here's hoping it leads to good results, but you really only get one shot at the NMSQT side of this.

I found some questions that are either misprinted or unclear. My son was doing the online test then it was suddenly interrupted at the middle of the test. The software did not allow him to go back to complete the test.

We are shocked by the errors of the book. Just started Math session, one math session of Unit One Extra Practice of total 32 questions, there are 11 mistakes in the answer session. The answers are not line up with the questions. Also, Chapter Two Practice, missing information in Question # 11. We felt like the book was just copied and pasted from previous year's edition, and the company did not even bother to go through basic editing to make sure the accuracy of the book. Very disappointed. Kaplan is the BIG name in test prep business. We are very disappointed.

As a geography nerd (and my profession) I love this product. I have a couple of copies I've given to friends and family and they all love it. I like the layout and the ability to color well-known, and not so well-known locations. As I color I daydream of planning a trip to some of these locations. Great author (check out her other works!) and a very cool fun book for young and old map lovers!Updated 5/11: After seeing some of the low and obscure reviews, I want to clarify one thing: This is a coloring book. It says it in the title! If you chose to review, be constructive as this is someone's livelihood and reviews are important to the success.

This is not my favorite coloring book. I thought it would be super cool because I love maps. However, there are no labels on the maps to help orient one's self in the city. I wish there were labels. The front has the key of which city you are coloring. However the maps themselves are super basic.

Total Geonerd Zen. I am a digital map maker\developer\designer and taking time away from the technology of maps to focus on the creativity just hits the spot. This coloring book is a great way to do just that.

The paper is horrible. Not at all good for coloring. Like super cheap copy paper. The line quality is also horrible. It's like diy OfficeMax job. It is so disappointing because it could have been so cool, but the execution is lacking in every way.

I really like collecting material for a D&D campaign I'm sure I'll run someday in the future. These maps are crisp, but I do wish that they looked a little more hand-drawn.There are cities that are meticulously planned into perfect rectangles, some that conform to a waterfront, and still others melding a medieval past into practical pathways. Super inspiring.

This is such a great coloring book. I love maps and seeing them of cities around the world and being able to use your imagination choosing colors is really fun. I like the size and I'm happy with the quality of the printing and the paper used. I haven't tried markers yet so I don't know about bleed through. I've been using my Prismacolor colored pencils and the finished pages look wonderful.

A map lover's dream come true. The other adult coloring books make me anxious and frustrate me. I love getting lost in the maps, and then having my own work of art when it's done.

These narratives depict the physical and mental atrocities visited upon black people in a way no other method, save that of witnessing the barbarities firsthand, could. The narratives that disclosed the meanness and depravity of evil "masters," graphically illustrate the abject wrongness of slavery. Lest we be inclined to consider the reports depicting benignant generosity among slave owners as exonerating slavery, consider the aftermath of emancipation. Hundreds of thousands of black people who were taught to depend on the largess of their white masters as the only way to live, were plunged into contemptible, humiliating poverty; swept under the feet of the vanquished foe that once enslaved them. Having described the slavery from which they were emancipated, they then speak of a new slavery of exclusion and hatred.

It gave you a "outline" of life as a slave. Some were treated much better than others.....One man's life was just plain horrendous. In the end they all lived like cattle. From my understanding this is just a tip of the stories on file. All people and generations should take the time to read these stories .....they are "all" our history. Whether we are the slaves or the owners of the past....it is our past.....lessons to learn by and never repeat.

Absolutely heartbreaking. How can one group of ppl be so inhuman to another group? How does one start a conversation about buying & selling ppl. The inner strength that it took for slaves to survive is truly remarkable. I first heard of The Slave Narratives during Black History Month on HBO where actors would read the life stories(?) of individual slaves. They were old when they told their story. Their minds were incredibly sharp for their ages.Should be required reading in high school & again in freshman comp. I live in the Deep South where one day we will answer for the deeds of our ancestors. 😢😓😥

Engaging. After about three-quarters through the book, there's a sense of deja vu, but I still made it to the end. My friends questioned my choice to read slave narratives, but I found them enlightening. The hierarchy that existed for the slaves connects to modern times. The numerous examples of Stockholm Syndrome were surprising. It was a good reminder that little changed after the end of slavery because there was no support or protection in place.

Wanted to buy a book about slavery that wasn't overly graphic so my 11 year old can know what it was really like because schools don't tell the true story and how awful these people were treated. Reading about true encounters, some not so bad and some horrible, is what I was looking for and found with this book.

I've heard that the blacks were treated badly and I believe it, but it makes a difference to hear the details. And it is obvious that this book is truthful, because some of the white slave owners were good to their slaves and even cried when they left after they told them they were free, and were happy when they returned to them of their own free will. The truth is never simple; the blacks weren't all whipped and hung from trees. I like to be able to picture the simple truth of history. If that interests you, read this book.

This is the book you want to read if you want to know exactly what slavery is truly like. Of course there are good and bad in all people and some slave owners were very kind and well loved.

I purchased this book because i really wanted to know what being in bondage was actually like from the people who lived it.I was not disappointed it tells the tale of how cruel and unjust slavery really was without the Hollywood Smoothover.Some of the tales really gripped at my heart families being torn apart never to see each other again,getting beaten and murdered at your slave masters whim, women getting raped. Although i knew these things happened in slavery but to actually hear it from those who actually lived thru it still ripped at my heart.Being a very proud woman of color to read what my ancestor's had to go thru and still keep the faith and carry on makes me both proud and faithful.I highly recommend this book to anyone who really wants to know the truth about slavery and to any person of color who is truly proud of who they are and truly want to know about their heritage.An EXCELLENT READ AND I WILL BE PURCHASING THE 100 SLAVE MEMOIRS AS WELL.
