Each step of the planning for showing was explained in detail, from how to use your stick, how to position your steer so it showed in the best manner for the judge, how to position yourself, and so much more. And everything hinges on the showers’ dedication to practice and familiarity with their animal. This author has a gift of teaching and it’s very evident through this book.

The approach is practical and the amount of information staggering. from basic advice on how to choose, treat and handle your cattle to invaluable methods to be used to impress the judge and win competition after competition, this is the go to bible for mastering beef showmanship. This is a very well thought out guide. It has occasional pictures to help and plenty of tips on handling and showing cattle.Jayne is extremely knowledgeable in beef showmanship as well as others (see her other books!)As someone even considering getting a cow, this book has helped me to see that it isn’t as scary as it sounds.Surely, anyone who uses this information will have a much better chance of winning shows!
This book has valuable information about beef showmanship. Tara Jayne organized it in a way that is easy to follow and understand. This is a step by step guide to the process of winning at beef showmanship based on her demonstrated experience and training. I especially liked Chapter 3 where she explains how to buy your calf, and how to avoid costly mistakes. She goes a step further with what to do if you make a mistake. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to master beef showmanship and impress a county fair judge.
Tara Jayne is a good writer. She knows what she is talking about because she does the necessary research and does hands on training with all the animals she writes about. A plus in her books is that when she gives instructions she has a photo clearly describing what it is she is sharing. She not only shares the information about showing animals, she shares with her readers the importance of good sportsmanship, the way to interact with a judge, how to dress properly and why that is important. For a young person she has a wealth of understanding and knowledge regarding the subjects of her books. Tara has a really good understanding about life, and shares that well so that young people can utilize the information. The book is not a lecture, but sharing information in ways to be useful.
Excellent, timely, relevant information for today’s competitive cattle showmen! As a beef leader, this book will be an incredibly valuable part of my year’s instruction. This is one of the tools in your toolbox you simply don’t want to be without!
I have read all of Tara Jayne's showmanship books. I've been raising and showing livestock for many years and can honestly say that she knows what she is talking about! I highly recommend this book for anyone showing beef cattle because it goes step-by-step in detail everything from deciding whether to purchase a broke or unbroke calf to show time preparation and showmanship tips. Even the seasoned showman can learn something from this book. 10/10!
