I cannot believe that NG approved the publication of a book like this that includes horrific images of murder, albeit mythological. I knew this was not the right book for a kid when I opened the very first page, but my son insisted to go on. Until...we opened the page depicting Cronus eating his own children (illustrated here by a graphic painting by Goya). First, my son screamed and closed his eyes with this hands, then he half opened his eyes, and starting asking these questions: "Is this really blood?" "Did he chew off their head first?" (see the photos I am attaching to this review), "Why did the father eat his children?" Now, when you *introduce* mythology to children (and despite its ridiculously superficial claim that the book is "EVERYTHING" about mythology, it is only an introduction, and a terribly failed one), and you pretend to be knowledgeable about the topic by throwing in famous art work (and not every art work is children-appropriate), you can at least be more selective. Of all the heros and gods to illustrate, the author and the illustrator had to pick a father eating his own children with blood drooling from his mouth! Did the book not go through an editing process? There are at least two other images that are unnecessarily violent. All this to "spice up" an already hot topic??!Additionally, the author's introduction to mythology as a pre-science phenomenon is quite problematic. There are today many living cultures who continue to believe in these gods, and to frame mythology as "pre-science" is biased, flawed scholarship.In sum, I am pretty shocked that this book came out of NG Kids. It needs serious revisions of its text and illustrations. For reference, the author, the illustrator, and the publisher might want to consult other kid-friendly books on mythology (there are at least two others that I know), and see how these heroes, gods, etc. can be introduced through humor, prudently selected illustrations, and with accurate information.
Perfect for my middle school mythology classes. After reviewing this one copy, we ordered 20 so each student would have a copy to read from. The students enjoyed the brightly beautiful illustrations. The content was good for them in small chunks for discussion. I would highly recommend to any teacher who needs a small text book to help describe the different world mythologies.
My son loves this book. After reading Percy Jackson, he was really interested in mythology. Great book for a variety of ages.
Purchased this for my 11 year old nephew. The pictures are vibrant and colorful, the text is not overwhelming, and there are a decent number of pages. He loved it.

Good info but I was hoping for the price there would have been more to the book. Its rather thin but the info is good for kids.
I bought this for my eight year old and he loved the book! It has beautiful pictures and stories that kept him engaged and wanting to read more.
Book was folded in half when received! Extremely upsetting. Each page is creased taking away from the joy of reading away from my innocent nephew who requested only this book for Christmas. Needless to say, I'm...pissed! I'm going to need a REAL Christmas miracle to smooth this one over.
